About DJ Ref

After receiving his business degree, DJ Ref, born Aaron Brown, decided it was time to make his mark in the world, literally. Ref went green and became one of California’s original (mobile) solar-powered DJs.

He didn’t just muster up this plan on a whim. Ref has always been a progressive thinker. Likewise, he has always had an affinity for music. Once he figured out he could do some good while doing something he loved, there was no turning back.

Over the last three years, Ref has garnered a strong green following. Ref proudly works with urban youth to bring awareness about the role they play in the ecosystem. In 2007, Ref founded Moguls through Melody, a free after school program that teaches children music theory Fundamentals and basic business skills. The program fosters confidence and responsibility and has recently partnered up with The Boys and Girls Club. MTM will begin working with local schools in 2010.

For his efforts, Ref has been mentioned on Television shows, several green blogs (including Ecostiletto.com) and progressive outlets such as Examiner.com. He was also interviewed for a recent NPR feature regarding promising entrepreneurs.

Ref developed a passion for music early. By age 11, Ref was already an intern for a San Francisco Radio Station. Soon after, Ref began to develop his technique and emotive style, fostering a devoted following. Since then, Ref has been seen rocking clubs in New York, Las Vegas and Brazil. He has DJ’d for companies like Universal Studios, Nestle, Nike, BB King, and of course, L.A. Green Drinks and appeared on television shows like BET’s Comicview and Baldwin Hills.

Ref has also made music of his own. He has production credits with artists like E-40 and has scored music for movies featured on Spike TV and The Disney Channel.

Even with his growing success, Ref remains incredibly humble, grateful to spread his love of music, and eager to sustain his position in the green movement.
